Altar of Sacrifice

Altar of Sacrifice

Author Darlene J. Conard

Yesterday a newly posted video popped up in my Facebook feed. I skipped, and the Holy Spirit said, “Go back and listen. I scrolled back and began listening to the message. His message started with a story about visiting his friend’s home.

On his friend’s mantle amid burning incense lay money and personal photos.  He asked his friend, “You have an altar in your house? Why do you have money and pictures on it? “His friend replied, “Our gods live there. we give sacrifices to our gods because they bless us with money.”

“That’s crazy!” His friend in response said, “You have an altar in your home.” Confused he replied, “No I don’t.”

“Yes, you do. You sit in front of your TV for hours and hours. You dedicate your attention and sacrifice time to it.” The man stood mute knowing that his friend had a point. His answer made him examine the condition of his soul. It made me search myself as well.

Romans 6:16, “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”  (KJV) It could be anything, problems, games, social media, it can be anything.  Not to say that it’s wrong, but if something is ruling our lives to the point it’s taking over our hearts, minds, and souls: well, it’s a problem.

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13 KJV

I first examine myself, as Paul when he wrote,
“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”  1 Corinthians 9:27 KJV

Let’s seek the Lord and He will fulfill the emptiness in our souls.
