Rain starting soon, displayed on the taskbar of my computer screen. For several days I waited for the eighty percent expected rain. Just maybe I have typed the wrong location. Nope! Following this wonder, “When is the rain coming,” reminds me of a fishing story.
Expectation hid from the disciples the night they floated across the sea to fish. Nothing, all night long, NOTHING! You can imagine the magnitude of frustration they experienced.
As they cleaned their nets Jesus stepped on the boat to teach the multitude from there. “Launch into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:1-9) God did the most miraculous thing at their weakest point.
Isn’t that just like God? Waiting until we feel exhausted to do something? It seems that way; however, He’s on the move around the clock. He’s always working behind the scenes. “Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” Psalm 121:4 KJV
Growing weary and discouraged is hard to fight against at times. I get that, do I ever understand that!
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV
God work isn’t depending on how we feel. That is not how He operates. If He says a blessing is coming, it’s coming. I guarantee that as we continue serving Him, we can expect Him to answer in ways beyond our comprehension.
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Galatians 6:9 KJV
Peter responded to Jesus with, “Master we’ve worked extremely hard all night, catching nothing.” His tired, weary mind and body didn’t exhaust his obedience. “But I will let down the net.” Every intense moment a challenge arises, that’s the attitude I desire. “God I’m tired, my mind is unfocused, and I’m a prisoner to my emotion. At Your word I’ll pray anyway. You can’t lie. Hope at this moment is hidden but You said, You are working this out.” Sacrificing what little strength remained, opened the windows of heaven. His once empty net screamed disappointment. Fish filled the net, almost sinking the boat. His follow fishermen rushed to help him with the overflow.
God will answer, when He does it will be greater than we could even image.
… “prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10 KJV
